Mali Reviews Agricultural Performance and Sets Ambitious Targets at CENA Session

Bamako, April 2, 2026 - Mali’s transitional government has reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural development following a high-level review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga. The 16th session of the National Executive Committee for Agriculture (CENA), held at the Prime Minister’s Office, brought together key stakeholders to assess the 2025 agricultural campaign and outline projections through 2028. Discussions were framed within the long-term national vision “Mali Kura ɲɛtaasira ka bɛn san 2063 ma,” reflecting the country’s ambition for sustained growth and resilience in the agricultural sector. According to official figures presented during the session, the 2025 campaign delivered encouraging results, with cereal production reaching over 11.4 million tons, alongside significant outputs in cotton, livestock, dairy, and fisheries. Prime Minister Maïga praised producers for their resilience in maintaining productivity despite ongoing challenges. Looking ahead, the government projects an increase in cereal production to nearly 11.9 million tons in 2026, while cotton output is expected to rise substantially. Authorities also announced a planned budget allocation of 164.4 billion CFA francs for the 2026 agricultural campaign, marking a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Officials emphasized that these projections and investments aim to strengthen food security, boost rural incomes, and support sustainable agricultural transformation across Mali.
