Bamako, April 4, 2026 - Mali has renewed its focus on strengthening oral healthcare as a key component of public health policy, during the opening of the 8th Scientific Conference of the Malian Order of Dental Surgeons. The conference, held in Bamako, comes amid ongoing reforms within the national health sector and has placed particular emphasis on repositioning bucco-dental health as a strategic public policy priority. From the opening session, health authorities called for stronger integration of oral healthcare into national health systems, especially in terms of financing, accessibility, and service delivery. Participants stressed that persistent structural challenges continue to limit equitable access to dental care across the country. The Minister of Health and Social Development of Mali highlighted what he described as insufficient attention historically given to oral health, urging reforms to better align it with broader national health objectives. The conference is expected to produce recommendations aimed at improving policy coordination, strengthening professional capacity, and expanding access to dental services nationwide.
