Cairo, April 1, 2026 - Mali took part in high-level African consultations on migration governance during a ministerial meeting held in Cairo, aimed at advancing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. Representing Mali, the Minister of Malians Living Abroad and African Integration, Mossa Ag Attaher, joined counterparts from across the continent in discussions hosted by Egypt. The meeting forms part of ongoing preparations for the 2026 International Migration Review Forum, set to take place in New York in May under the auspices of the United Nations. Participants focused on strengthening coordination among African states and aligning regional priorities ahead of the global forum. The consultations also underscored the importance of collective action to ensure safe, orderly, and regular migration, while addressing the specific challenges faced by African countries. The Cairo meeting highlights Africa’s growing engagement in shaping global migration governance frameworks and reinforcing a unified continental voice on migration-related issues.
