Bamako, April 16, 2026 - Academic cooperation between Mali and Iran was reinforced on Thursday as the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Bouréma Kansaye, received Mr. Moustapha Nobacht, Rector of Al-Moustapha University of Iran based in Mali. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen educational and scientific relations between the two countries. During the discussions, the Rector expressed satisfaction with his experience in Mali, noting that he felt “as at home as in Iran.” He also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Mali’s higher education priorities and invited the minister to specify national training needs in order to better align academic programs with local demands. Mr. Nobacht further emphasized the university’s readiness to respond swiftly to Mali’s academic and scientific capacity-building requirements. The exchange also touched on broader international developments. Minister Kansaye, speaking on behalf of the Malian academic community, conveyed condolences over recent human losses in Iran, including prominent public figures, scientists, and students. He also paid tribute to the cooperation between Mali and Iran, particularly in the field of scientific training, describing it as a positive example of South-South academic partnership. The meeting reflects Mali’s continued strategy of expanding university cooperation frameworks to strengthen skills development and scientific research through international collaboration.
