Bamako, April 14, 2026 - Cultural cooperation within the Sahel took center stage as Mali’s Minister for Malians Living Abroad and African Integration received Mohamed Cissé, President of the ALACHO (Indigo) Association of Burkina Faso and Cultural Ambassador of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES). Cissé’s visit to Bamako forms part of a broader regional cultural exchange initiative, highlighted by his participation in events linked to the handover of the mascot for the Bougouni Art and Culture Biennial, a key platform for artistic expression in southern Mali. During the meeting, the Burkinabè cultural figure praised the Malian authorities for their continued commitment to promoting national culture, with particular emphasis on the valorization of Tuareg craftsmanship, widely regarded as a cornerstone of Sahelian heritage. Talks between the two parties also focused on avenues for deepening sub-regional cultural collaboration. Discussions underscored the potential role of Cultural Ambassadors from AES member states in advancing shared cultural initiatives, especially in the lead-up to the second edition of the International Diaspora Forum. The engagement reflects a growing recognition among Sahel states of culture as a strategic tool for regional integration, identity preservation, and international outreach.
