Kinshasa, July 30, 2026 - Staff at the Congolese Posts and Telecommunications Company (SCPT) remained on strike, demanding payment of 17 consecutive months of salary arrears and the departure of Director-General Sandra Tshibonge Mbiye, whom they accuse of mismanagement.

Union vice-president Jean Makayanga Kalukula said workers claim more than $300 million and want the state to treat SCPT like other public enterprises.

Strikers also said more than seven tonnes of parcels remained blocked at the post office.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July DRC briefing.

The walkout, launched June 22, had still not produced a settlement.
