Rwanda has granted citizenship to over 100 people, mostly Burundians and Congolese

A statement released by the country's immigration authority shows that among those granted citizenship, 26 were born in Burundi, 20 were born in the DRC, nine were born in Uganda and eight were born in the United States.

They include six born in Belgium, five born in Cameroon, four born in Kenya and three born in Rwanda to parents of foreign origin.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

Canada, the Netherlands, the Republic of Congo, Switzerland and Tanzania each have two people born in their country who have been granted Rwandan citizenship.

About 60% of those granted Rwandan citizenship are between 30 and 49 years of age, who appear to have the potential to contribute to the country's development.

The next largest group are those aged between 50 and 64, those over 65, and youth under 30.

The youngest is 5 years old, the oldest is 81 years old.

Rwandan citizenship came into effect on July 24, 2026, according to the official gazette in which the announcement was published.
