OPM Refugee Commissioner Charged With Abuse of Office

Kampala, Uganda, July 28, 2026 - The Office of the Prime Minister’s Refugee Commissioner was charged with abuse of office and remanded, in a case watched closely by humanitarian partners in one of Africa’s largest refugee-hosting operations.

The remand adds scrutiny to refugee-management governance at a time when aid budgets are strained and Uganda continues to host large populations from neighbouring conflicts.

Courts will determine the merits as proceedings advance.
