Bamako, March 28, 2026 - Mali’s authorities and Chinese partners have conducted a joint inspection of the Safo solar power plant construction site, underscoring ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy capacity in the country. The visit was led by the Minister of Energy and Water, Prof. Tiémoko Traoré, alongside the Ambassador of China to Mali, Li Xiang. The inspection brought together representatives from the Presidency of Mali, officials from the energy sector, the management of Énergie du Mali (EDM-SA), as well as engineers and contractors from Sinohydro, the firm responsible for executing the project. The mission focused on assessing the progress of the 50 MWp Safo photovoltaic solar power plant, particularly Phase I of construction, and ensuring compliance with contractual timelines and technical requirements. Authorities described the visit as part of strengthened oversight efforts aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery and improving energy access across Mali.
