July saw above-normal temperatures in Rwanda

A report by the National Meteorological Institute (Meteo Rwanda) for farmers and ranchers indicates that from 11 to 20 July 2026, temperatures were above normal compared to the past 30 years.

The Meteo Rwanda report indicates that during those ten days, rainfall was higher in many parts of the country compared to the average rainfall for those dates over the past several years.

However, there were areas where rainfall decreased, including most of Kigali City, some parts of the Southern and Northern Provinces, as well as the districts of Kayonza, Nyagatare and Nyamasheke.

Meteo Rwanda said that where rainfall was observed, it fell for between one and five days. This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

The heaviest rainfall was observed in some parts of the districts of Nyamasheke, Nyaruguru, Musanze and Nyabihu. This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

At the Busogo ISAE station in Musanze District, 40.9 millimeters of rain were measured, falling in two days. This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

According to Ntendezi in Nyamasheke District, 37.7 millimeters were measured, falling in five days, while according to Kibeho in Nyaruguru District, 31.2 millimeters were measured, falling in one day.

Temperatures above normal Meteo Rwanda indicated that in many parts of the country, temperatures were above the normal average between July 11 and 20.

In general, Meteo Rwanda said that Rusizi District, especially the Bugarama Valley, recorded the highest temperature in the country during that period.

The report also shows that the minimum temperature in most parts of the country was above the average minimum temperature observed between July 11 and 20.

The lowest temperature was recorded at Busogo in Musanze District, where it was 12°C, while the highest temperature was recorded at Bugarama in Rusizi District, where it was 19.9°C.

Meteo Rwanda indicated that Musanze, Burera and Nyabihu Districts were the coldest areas in the country during that period. This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

Meteo Rwanda advised farmers to continue to consult with their local agricultural advisors and carry out activities related to the C growing season, including planting in swamps and irrigating where possible.

Farmers were also asked to prepare for the 2027 A season, while livestock farmers were asked to contact veterinarians for advice on how to care for their livestock based on the expected weather and summer conditions.

Meteo Rwanda urged the population to continue monitoring weather forecast information and use it in planning agricultural and livestock activities.
