KIGALI, Rwanda, July 24, 2026 - Cabinet approved a new national agency to manage biodiversity conservation and wildlife, including Volcanoes and Gishwati-Mukura national parks.

The agency is intended to strengthen ecosystem conservation, research, innovation and sustainable tourism.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

Gishwati-Mukura covers 3,558 hectares in Rutsiro and Ngororero, while Volcanoes National Park is a major wildlife destination.

Rwanda recorded $685 million in tourism revenue in 2025, up 6% from 2024, and 1.49 million visitors, up 9%.
