KIGALI, July 10, 2026 - Rwanda has registered nearly $8 billion in private investment projects between June 2024 and June 2026, with the investments expected to generate more than 118,000 jobs, Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva announced. The Prime Minister made the announcement on June 9, 2026, while presenting the government’s economic performance and measures to strengthen the country’s resilience amid domestic and global challenges before both chambers of Parliament. Dr. Nsengiyumva said Rwanda’s economy continued to demonstrate strong growth, expanding by 10% in the first quarter of 2026, while more than 240,000 jobs have been created since the first quarter of 2025. He said the country’s economic expansion has been accompanied by increased private sector investment, with major projects registered over the past two years. “From 2024 to June this year, private investment projects worth nearly $8 billion were registered. It is expected that this investment will create 118,000 jobs,” he said. The government has set a target of creating 250,000 jobs annually by 2029 as part of its long-term economic development strategy. Rwanda’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached 6.346 trillion Rwandan francs in the first quarter of 2026, compared with 5.276 trillion Rwandan francs during the same period in 2025, representing a 10% increase. The services sector remained the largest contributor to economic output, accounting for 52% of GDP, followed by industry at 24%, agriculture at 19%, and other sectors at 5%. During the same period, agricultural production grew by 8%, industrial output increased by 13%, and services expanded by 7%. Trade and commerce activity rose by 11%, while the transport sector also recorded 11% growth.
