Delly Sesanga Says DGM Seized Passport, Ordered Him to Appear Before Court of Cassation

KINSHASA, June 28, 2026 - Opposition leader Delly Sesanga says the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) confiscated his passport and prevented him from traveling to Europe for medical treatment, informing him only that he was required to appear before the Court of Cassation.

The president of the Envol party said he was denied boarding at Kinshasa's international airport after immigration officials seized his passport.

"They took my passport and refused me boarding," Sesanga said, adding that no formal explanation was provided for the measure.

According to Sesanga, immigration officials told him only that he was expected to appear before the Court of Cassation but did not present any official summons or specify the legal basis for the order.

"I was never notified of anything," he said.

Sesanga stated that he had planned to travel to Europe for medical treatment related to injuries he said he sustained during the June 12 demonstration. He claimed to be suffering from ten serious injuries requiring specialized care.

The opposition leader described the confiscation of his passport as an arbitrary restriction on his constitutional right to freedom of movement.

"This is an act of violence against my freedom of movement, guaranteed by the Constitution," he said, adding that he intended to challenge the measure through legal means.
