Buwenge Buries Two Men Shot Dead During LC1 Polls
Jinja, Uganda, July 31, 2026 - Mourners in Buwenge Town Council buried Latib Ikaali, 26, and Fred Kalulu, 19, allegedly shot by a police officer during LC1 elections in Kabi Zone, as residents demanded justice and electoral-security reforms.

Witnesses said voting was underway when gunfire erupted and Kalulu was found wounded at the scene.
This detail was included in the mid-to-late July UGANDA briefing.
Local leaders said Buwenge has repeatedly seen election-day violence, putting pressure on police and the Electoral Commission to prevent further bloodshed in residual village contests.
