Mufti Mubaje Commits to Stronger Partnership Between UMSC and IUEA

KAMPALA, July 16, 2026 - The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has pledged to strengthen cooperation between the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the International University of East Africa (IUEA), highlighting the importance of science, technology, and innovation in driving Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the IUEA main campus in Kansanga, Kampala, Mubaje praised the university’s focus on practical education in fields including engineering, petroleum studies, mining, and electric motorcycle technology.

He said the partnership between UMSC and IUEA, which has supported scholarship opportunities for students, would be expanded to create more educational opportunities and promote skills development.

“I am delighted to return and find that what was once a place of recreation has become a centre of knowledge shaping the future of young people,” Mubaje said, referring to the campus site’s former use as Didi’s World amusement park.

The Mufti also commended the university’s multicultural environment, describing diversity as an important factor in promoting unity, mutual respect, and knowledge exchange among students from different backgrounds.

I encourage students to embrace one another regardless of their backgrounds because education thrives where people learn from each other’s experiences,” he said.

Mubaje was accompanied by Deputy Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa and other senior officials from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Akaezuwa described IUEA as a technology-focused institution committed to producing graduates with practical and industry-relevant skills capable of meeting the demands of the modern labour market.

He said the university continues to build international partnerships aimed at strengthening teaching, research, and innovation while preparing students for global competitiveness.

During the visit, Mubaje toured the university’s lecture halls, laboratories, and library, where he interacted with students and staff to learn more about the institution’s academic programmes and learning environment.

The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts between UMSC and IUEA, followed by a luncheon hosted by the university management.

The renewed commitment to collaboration is expected to enhance educational opportunities for students while supporting Uganda’s broader efforts to develop expertise in science, technology, and innovation.
