Kampala, Uganda, July 31, 2026 - Parliament’s Physical Infrastructure Committee questioned Uganda Railway Corporation over about Shs25 billion spent on staff training under a Spanish- and EU-linked technical assistance programme, ordering CID-backed verification of participants.

URC said the money covered 43 programmes for 1,150 employees nationwide, spanning technical, performance, finance and security courses.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July UGANDA briefing.

Committee chair Mwine Mpaka demanded full name and contact lists so investigators can check whether listed trainees were actually in Kampala on the claimed dates, and also summoned figures over disputed URC land.
