Kampala, Uganda, July 31, 2026 - Military chiefs, defence ministers and heads of state meeting in Munyonyo reviewed Al-Shabaab threats, Somali security-force readiness and how African troop contributors can sustain AUSSOM after planned UNSOS closure.

Uganda, a long-standing contributor to Somali missions, used the chair’s platform to argue that African-led operations cannot depend indefinitely on shrinking UN logistics envelopes.

Recommendations from the summit are expected to shape contingency plans ranging from regional logistics frameworks to orderly handover scenarios.
