University of Rwanda Allocates $3 Million Prize to Health Training
KIGALI, Rwanda, July 22, 2026 - The University of Rwanda said it would use a $3 million, or about Rwf4.4 billion, Mastercard Foundation award to expand medical teaching, scholarships and laboratory equipment.

UR received the Africa Higher Education for Transformation Prize in the Excellence in Health category.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research Dr.
Raymond Ndikumana said the funds would help increase student capacity and improve facilities.
The university said it has trained more than 26,000 health professionals and published 477 medical research papers last year.
