Bamako, Mali, July 28, 2026 - Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye arrived for a 24-hour working and solidarity visit and was received by transitional President Gen.

Assimi Goïta, his first Bamako trip since taking the ECOWAS chair.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July MALI briefing.

The two leaders reaffirmed stronger bilateral cooperation, condemned terrorist attacks on Malian forces and discussed monetary and water-resource coordination through UEMOA and the Senegal River basin organisation.

Faye offered Senegal’s support for Mali’s stabilisation while Bamako sought reliable corridor partners after months of fuel and logistics strain.

Regional analysts framed the visit as Dakar’s pragmatic opening to AES-ruled Bamako without abandoning ECOWAS leadership duties.
