Rwanda Envoy Hails Zimbabwe’s Election to UN Security Council as Milestone for Africa

Harare, June 10, 2026 - Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, James Musoni, has congratulated Zimbabwe following its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, describing the development as a major diplomatic achievement for both the country and the African continent.

Speaking during Africa Day celebrations held in Harare on Monday, Ambassador Musoni said Zimbabwe’s successful election marked a significant moment worthy of celebration across Africa and beyond.

He praised the leadership of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as well as the government and citizens of Zimbabwe, for securing the country’s place on the global body tasked with maintaining international peace and security.

Musoni further emphasized Africa’s potential to become an increasingly attractive and influential continent, citing its abundant natural resources and youthful population as key strengths. He stressed that African states have an important responsibility in advancing sustainable development and shaping the continent’s future aspirations.

Zimbabwe was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council on June 3, 2026, joining Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, and Trinidad and Tobago among the countries selected for upcoming terms.
