RCS leaders discuss how prisoners can return home with confidence and the ability

The retreat is being held at the Gako Military Academy in Bugesera District.

The retreat, which began on 23 July, saw RCS staff and invited partners learn together about the progress of the Rwanda Correctional Service in implementing its core mission of rehabilitating offenders who are punished by the courts, and preparing them to return to Rwandan society as productive members of their families and Rwandan society at large.

CG Evariste Murenzi, opening the retreat, reminded the staff of their own responsibilities and those of RCS, including that RCS has a strong responsibility to reform through prison management and providing quality services, protecting the rights of prisoners, and preparing them well to return to normal life with confidence and the ability to prevent crime and contribute to the development of the country.

He affirmed that RCS has a responsibility to change the mindset and behavior of prisoners, to train them in nation-building values, and to help them rebuild themselves in a proper manner.

All these responsibilities are aimed at building a new citizen, with values, knowledge and proper behavior, so that the country has lasting security.

CG Murenzi reminded the participants of this retreat that in order to fulfill these responsibilities, they are required to be professional in everything they do and to work together, each one knowing their responsibilities.

He said that this retreat is a solution because RCS staff and its stakeholders will share ideas aimed at developing it so that it reaches the level they desire.

He said, “To accomplish these important tasks, we need to work together, plan for what is needed and take joint measures to improve our responsibilities, each with a clear understanding of their contribution.” “This retreat comes as one of the solutions, where RCS staff in collaboration with experienced partners will provide discussions on topics including various national policies, technology, security management, public financial management, productivity, mental health, and corrections with the aim of increasing our knowledge and skills that will help us achieve the RCS we desire.” The three-day retreat, which is comprised of leaders of various farms from across the country, heads of various departments in RCS and others from the Rwanda Revenue Authority Headquarters, is scheduled to be concluded by the Minister of Internal Security, Dr.
