President Kagame visits Tanzania to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Dar es Salaam, 3 May 2026 - President Paul Kagame has arrived in Tanzania for an official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Upon arrival at Dar es Salaam International Airport, President Kagame was received by Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, alongside senior officials. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, Ambassador General Patrick Nyamvumba, and the Head of the Presidential Media Office.

During the visit, President Kagame is expected to hold talks with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, focusing on expanding cooperation in trade, transport, security, agriculture, and industrial development.

Rwanda and Tanzania maintain longstanding economic ties, with Tanzania serving as a key trade gateway for Rwanda through the port of Dar es Salaam, which handles a significant share of Rwanda’s imports. Both countries are also engaged in major regional infrastructure projects, including the development of a railway linking Isaka and Kigali to improve cargo transport efficiency.

Bilateral relations are further supported by cooperation frameworks and business and friendship associations that promote collaboration between citizens and private sectors in both countries.
