Medical Waste Dumping Alarms Bidibidi Residents
Yumbe, Uganda, July 31, 2026 - Residents of Bidibidi settlement raised alarm over alleged open dumping of syringes and other medical waste at Twajiji Health Centre III, saying maternity, outpatient and pharmacy refuse was left in open areas instead of treated disposal systems.

Local leaders said children had been seen picking and playing with discarded items and warned of infection risks including HIV and hepatitis.
Community representatives said repeated complaints to facility managers had produced no corrective action.
