Bamako, June 3, 2026 - Mali’s Prime Minister and Head of Government, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga, on Wednesday presided over the opening ceremony of the Pan-African Media Forum (FOPAME), calling for strengthened African information sovereignty amid rapidly evolving global communication dynamics.

Organized by the Maison de la Presse du Mali, the forum serves as a platform for reflection, dialogue, and policy proposals on the future of information and communication across the continent.

The gathering brought together representatives from public and private media organizations, institutions, researchers, academics, experts, policymakers, and media professionals from several African countries to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

Over the course of four days, participants are expected to engage in discussions through five thematic panels and three roundtable sessions aimed at assessing issues related to information, communication, and media sovereignty in a world undergoing profound and accelerated transformations.
