Mali and Equatorial Guinea Strengthen Bilateral Ties Through High-Level Talks

Malabo, March 31, 2026 - Mali and Equatorial Guinea have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation following high-level discussions held on the sidelines of the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). Representing Mali, the Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration, Mossa Ag Attaher, was received in audience by Simeón Oyono Esono Angüe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Equatorial Guinea. During the meeting, Minister Attaher conveyed the fraternal greetings of Mali’s Head of State, Assimi Goïta, to Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, underscoring the longstanding ties between the two nations. Both parties reaffirmed the strength of their relationship, rooted in friendship, solidarity, and mutual cooperation. Discussions focused on several areas of shared interest, including the need to enhance bilateral collaboration and address challenges faced by Malian nationals residing in Equatorial Guinea. Key issues raised included improving consular protection, advancing a draft agreement on the free movement of people, and identifying practical solutions to difficulties encountered by members of the Malian diaspora. Officials described the talks as constructive, highlighting their importance in reinforcing cooperation and advancing shared priorities between Bamako and Malabo.
