Mali, African Union Hold Talks on Sahel Security and Counterterrorism Efforts

Addis Ababa, May 15, 2026 - Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulaye DIOP, held talks with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, during an official visit to Addis Ababa.

Discussions focused on the security situation in Mali and the wider Sahel region following the terrorist attacks carried out in Mali on April 25, 2026.

The two officials also reviewed the African Union’s support for Mali’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen regional stability.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to promote stronger and more constructive dialogue between Mali and the African Union, in line with the spirit of solidarity and fraternity underpinning their relations.
