Djibouti Selected to Host Next CONFEMEN Session in 2028

Djibouti, May 2, 2026 - The Republic of Djibouti has been selected to host the next session of the Conference of Ministers of Education of the States and Governments of La Francophonie (CONFEMEN), scheduled for 2028.

The decision was made during the 61st CONFEMEN session held from April 27 to May 1 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where member states chose Djibouti following a competitive selection process involving Romania and Gabon.

Officials said the selection reflects renewed confidence in Djibouti’s role within the Francophone education space and recognition of its ongoing commitment to strengthening education systems and promoting Francophone cooperation.

A Djiboutian delegation led by Ayan Osman Abrar, technical advisor to the Minister of Education and national correspondent for CONFEMEN, took part in the deliberations of the session, which brought together education authorities from across member states.

Discussions among participating countries focused on strengthening cooperation in education policy, improving quality standards, and reinforcing solidarity within the Francophone community.

Founded in 1960, CONFEMEN brings together education ministers from 41 Francophone states and governments, meeting every two years to coordinate policies and advance shared educational priorities.
