Djibouti and UNDP Expand Cooperation to Drive Sustainable Development Agenda

Djibouti, June 1, 2026 - Djibouti has strengthened its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), following high-level discussions aimed at accelerating economic reform and advancing sustainable development priorities.

The renewed cooperation was highlighted during a working visit by a senior UNDP official, who met with Djibouti’s Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of Industry to review ongoing programs and explore new areas of collaboration.

Talks focused on a series of flagship initiatives supporting Djibouti’s development agenda, including economic planning frameworks, governance reforms, sustainable financing mechanisms, and programs designed to align national policies with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and mobilizing innovative financing tools to support long-term economic resilience. Key projects discussed include national development planning initiatives, transparency and accountability reforms, and green financing instruments aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable growth.

The meeting also explored opportunities for enhanced South-South cooperation, particularly potential partnerships involving regional development models and economic zone experiences. Officials discussed the possibility of technical exchanges and feasibility studies in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and value chain development, including salt production.

Djibouti authorities underscored their commitment to diversifying the economy and leveraging strategic partnerships to accelerate inclusive growth, while UNDP reaffirmed its support for the country’s reform and development priorities.
