Djibouti and Somalia Reaffirm Strategic Ties During Ambassadorial Ceremony

Mogadishu, May 17, 2026 - Djibouti and Somalia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic cooperation and regional stability following the official presentation of credentials by Djibouti’s new ambassador to Somalia, Osman Doubad Sougouleh.

The ceremony took place on May 14 in Mogadishu, where Ambassador Sougouleh formally presented his credentials to Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali, officially marking the beginning of his diplomatic mission.

The meeting comes amid growing cooperation between the two neighboring countries on issues related to regional security, political coordination, and stability in the Horn of Africa.

During discussions held after the ceremony, Ambassador Sougouleh conveyed greetings from Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, and expressed appreciation for the reception he received upon arriving in the Somali capital.

Talks between the two officials focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in several strategic sectors, including diplomacy, economic development, and security.

Somalia’s foreign minister welcomed the continued strong relations between the two nations and praised the close ties maintained by their leaderships.

He also acknowledged Djibouti’s diplomatic and military contributions to efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in Somalia and across the wider Horn of Africa region.

The meeting highlighted the enduring partnership between Djibouti and Somalia, rooted in historical ties, geographic proximity, and shared interests in regional integration and security cooperation.
