Construction of Kivu Belt Water Supply System Completed

Mininfra announced that the completion of the plant will help provide clean water to various parts of the Western Province.

The plant has a water treatment capacity of 13,000 cubic meters.

This detail was included in the mid-to-late July RWANDA briefing.

The completed part of the plant is the first phase of the Kivu Belt Water Supply System project that will, when completed, provide clean water to over 130,000 residents.

The message reads: “In addition to providing clean water to households, the project will improve service delivery to health facilities, schools, hotels, commercial centers, and other government institutions, in line with supporting public health and economic development.” Rwanda says it is committed to providing safe water to Rwandans and ensuring sustainable access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene for all Rwandans.

The Rwandan government recently announced that in a move to address the problem of insufficient clean water reaching the population, 688,000 metric tons of clean water will be processed by 2029.

WASAC indicates that at least 1,234 metric tons of wastewater are processed daily by existing plants but are not available due to aging plants.

Among the efforts being made are the expansion and rehabilitation of infrastructure and water pipes, with the aim of reducing water leakage before it reaches the population to 25% by 2029 from the current 35%.
